I think it’s called being creative, you knew it wasn't going to be one for the purists, but it doesn’t hurt to try something a little different now and again.

I don’t know if you are into movies, but there is a fairly recent film called “The Rhythm Section”, the title has little to do with music (female assassin) and it’s gaining a bit of cult following over here. Not exactly Shadows (and may well destroy my street cred), but one of the soundtracks is based on an old Lead Belly blues number “Where Are You Sleeping Tonight”, again it was one of those where I had not heard the original and but impressed with the way the track worked in the movie (seems quite a few others were too!).

This lead me to the Kurt Cobain/Nirvana version, which IMHO has that brilliance and feeling about it!

I have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music, but I think that’s all part of the richness and enjoyment!

Thanks for that. Yes it's just about creativeness indeed. I write a lot of instrumentals as well that get covered mainly in France and Europe by VHBL and others. I was quite interested in a cover (of a cover) recently of one of my originals which was done in a kind of jazz/Wes Montgomery style:

Hi Bob,

Yes…. Kurt’s has a brilliance and that something special, but the movie version works well in that context (they play selected parts in the movie).

I really enjoyed the VHBL cover version of “Janice”, being one of your originals and from the photo she is obviously someone very special to you!

With the distances involved I wonder how you and all talented members associated with VHBL got together?

Yes the VHBL are a pseudo group comprising members from all over via the internet. Very good guys.

I’m sure you realise that it wasn’t my intention to be intrusive, what a wonderful tribute to your wife!

“Predator” is very much my type of guitar instrumental and I enjoyed listening to it several times. I detect a touch of the Martin Cilia influence in parts, I have followed Martin and The Atlantics for a few years now, but there seems to be a lot of Australian musical talent that I previously missed or it simply didn’t get the exposure over here.

The VHBL band covers and artists appearing in them are impressive and now fairly familiar to those visiting the Shads sound files, it would be nice to know a little more about them and how it all comes together!

No intrusion at all mate. I rather think my influences are a mixture of Duane and Hank together.

Not sure if I hear a similarity to Martin Cilia. We have co-written together, but 'Predator' was done many years before Martin hooked up with The Atlantics. 'Daytripping the savage ' is just a tongue in cheek romp really. Just a bit of fun, nothing else. Wish I could play Steve Stevens version from the CD 'Twang'.
