Jimbo....

Great to see you - living each note you pull. Wonderful... I would really like to see you pull a few of those bends in the tune rather than fret them - lots of scope in here to do that and really make it float...but that's just me!!

Best always,

Tony.

Sure - I guess I just thought you should 'break free' a bit more... take the tab / notation and breathe a little bit of Jimbo 'feel' into it!!

Lovely sound and playing Jim. I think what Tolo is getting at and I think so too is if you imaging Gary Moore playing the same tune(minus the distortion) he'd bend a lot of the notes up to pitch(making the guitar sing) instead of fretting them like you do. I think your version is great and as you say, we all hear it our own way.
I'm the same as you, I just use the dots as a guide to how I play something.
Keep em coming 8-)

I could, he does some beautiful melodic pieces too. Would'nt surprise me in the least if he had a go at it. But I was just using him and his playing expression as an example to explain what Tolo and I were saying. Not a criticism in any way as to your playing which was excellent as per usual.
I'd say that maybe even Hank would have done a few bends and swell notes on this piece as it is the kind of tune that lends itself to this.

Very elegantly said Hugh... Exactly what I was trying to say....!

Absolutlely no criticsm intended there Jimbo, for one I wish I could get close to the 'tone' you get from your guitar!! But I guess I just wanted to hear the type of great bends and swells you got on 'Chi Mai' - on this too, which is quite a tricky thing to do well... I could hear them in my head!!

I too could hear Gary Moore play this tune - he is one of those players who goes for the melody and not for the flash...

Best always,

Tony.

Hi Jimbo,

Just loved it. Your own interpretation is fine with me.

Talking about "interpreting", I recently had a very serious bout of pimples on my face. Last week I fell alseep in the library and when I woke up a blind man was reading my face (this is supposed to be a joke).

Anyway, interpretation is in the ear (or eye) of the beholder. I can understand what the others are saying, and Gary M, Gary T, Hank, Pierre, Roger P, and others would probably interpret this tune differently, as I do do when I play it as a piano solo piece. Variety is the spice of life.

Anyway, I loved the way you did it and kep those Foster on ice mate as we'll be with you in September/October.

Hi Jim - I'll say right off that I've not been a fan of this particular tune up until now but your version of it has got me thinking again about it!

Super playing (particularly the timing which is so important in a slow number like this) and a guitar sound that fits really well.
