Here's the Savage done on my guitar through a Quad GT and Vox Valvetronix AVT30 - same desk settings as on the previous version with the TVS3.

Masterful performance as always Robbo.

I really like the TVS3, not having ever owned one, but having heard it many times used by some great players (including yourself Robbo at North Notts once or twice) and having spent some considerable time in Perth (Western Australia) with Prof Paul Rossiter (inventor of the TVS3) and having (on keys) accompanied Gary Taylor (Hank's playing partner) using the TVS3 and with Hank using the TVS3 too on the recent tour.

Everyone hears sounds differently (my partner Leanne says I fart too loud whereas I think they're all very classy and with just the right amount of reverb), and if Jimbo likes the Quad then good onyer mate and I wont argue with you as I know you have the Fosters on ice for us. Bazza also uses a Quad and I love playing with him, and the sound he gets from his Marvin and my Apache through the Quad is fantastic. George uses a Magic Stomp with Charlie's patches and I love playing with him too, so smoooooth. So what am I actually saying. Go with what you like, with the sound you like, and just enjoy whatever you.

Thank you for listening and for your comments. I accept that it's all about opinions, but the fact is that Daniel's recording of The Savage with the TVS3 matches the original in tone, echo volume and added reverb (very little) as we had them running side by side and matched what we were hearing from the Shadows recording. We did have it 'brighter' and with more echo volume at first, the way we thought it should be, but upon listening to it over and over again, it wasn't right and we reduced the brightness and echo volume to match what was on the record.

This version with the Quad GT (£100) was played on a guitar that I cobbled together for under £200 (including the 57/62 pickups) and the amp was bought new in 2004 at the cost of £129.00. That totals £429.00.
Jim, concerning the instruments, you may need to rethink your 'smaller budget' statement on your post of The Savage. In view of the description of you gear, I'd say that your kit was double the cost of mine. Not that it matters, but I wanted to illustrate to folks that money isn't the answer to the sound, with the right adjustments it is possible to get close to the sound with less expensive items. :)

Hi Dave, while browsing through the older threads I came across this one. I did something similar with Wonderful Land which I posted using a Squire Strat,Magicstomp and a Boss eq No guitar amp or guitar processor such as the Tonelab or pod was used with surprising results. I Couldn’t agree more with you statement.(I wanted to illustrate to folks that money isn't the answer to the sound, with the right adjustments it is possible to get close to the sound with less expensive items.). Great to see this come from someone like yourself. Especially as money is tight for everyone right now.great post. Regards Tony

Hi Dave,

I find your performance superb and the sound very close.
I would very much like to hear Daniel's version with the TVS3 too (who is Daniel by the way?).
Could you point me to his recording?.
Thank you much.

Abel

Hi Dave,
It's a shame that Daniels TVS version is no longer available for comparison but budget? I bet you'd could make even a Zoom G2 sound good. Great stuff.
Regards
John

I have found this and I believe it to be the one you are looking for - Daniel through TVS3 - The Savage.

Hi Dave,
Initially listening to the sound files in isolation the TVS3 seemed far too dry & tinny & the Quad sounded warm & accurate but when I dragged your's, Daniel's & Hank's tracks into Audacity & played them in sync (you on the far right, Hank in the middle & Daniel far left) then it quickly became very apparent that your finding's where spot on (no surprise really because you did your home work ;) ). But it is strange that when heard in isolation the Quad track appeals to me more than the TVS3?.

Very Best Regards
John :D
