Hi!
This recording is made by me and my good freind Daniel Holm. Daniel were playing the rythm guitar and I handled the leadguitar.

Hi Patrik,
That piece has a great sound. I love Daniel's rhythm work and you played the lead well of course. I suppose that the piece was recorded with the use of a microphone and not recorded direct. For some reason, direct recording of rhythm guitar always seems to sound "electronic" but I could be proved wrong one day on that. Well done by you both.

Len

I agree about the lead sound, but a D.I'd acoustic shouldn't necessarily sound as 'flat' as this one does,(I don't hear any 'life' in the tone from the body of the instrument) I suppose it depends on the quality of the guitar, the pickup and the desk as well as the person operating the gear. I get great results with my own acoustic guitars by D.I-ing, but I do prefer a miked sound. A good effort though.

Since i´m the one on rythm i´ll be best to answer that the silmple reason the rythm sounds "electronic" is that is actually is. It is a simulated acoustic guitar in my Boss GT-5 Guitar Effects Processor with my ordinary Fender Stratocaster.
Many thanks for the complements on the rythm anyway guys. It was just a fun recording that actually worked besides it was a bit out of tune at some parts.

Thanks for sharing that info Daniel, it goes a long way in illustrating how a simulation doesn't give satisfaction compared with a real acoustic guitar.
It did sound OK though for what it was, well done.

Hi Daniel,
I was actually saying that the rhythm guitar does not sound "electronic" to me and suggesting that it therefore probably had been recorded with a microphone. But you have proved me wrong with my supposition. I think that the GT-5 simulation sounds great though Dave doesn't seem to fully agree. Perhaps it does lack a little in natural-sounding resonance but even that can possibly be remedied with the right reverb setting or by use of a room-ambience plug-in.
The speaker sims on the GT-5 are not supposed to sound like DI-ing. They are supposed to sound like a microphone recording using a speaker cabinet. On the other hand, when I use my acoustic guitar (with piezos) for direct recording, it still sounds electronic to me.
I have the sister version of the Roland/Boss GT-5 -- the GT-3. I have not yet managed to get it sounding like an acoustic mic-recorded guitar yet though. Obviously, you would be using the Acoustic guitar simulator on the GT-5 but the EQ-ing and other settings would largely determine the sound-quality and how much it would actually sound like an acoustic guitar. I was wondering what settings you used for your simulated sound as most of these have equivalents on the GT-3. The only difference is that the speaker simulations on the GT-3 are not as flexible as on the GT-5. The pre-amp sims are roughly the same though. The GT-3 actually came out in the late 90's I think it was, after the GT-5 (the sales of this apparently disappointed Roland), and was a scaled-down more affordable version of the GT-5, as you probably realise. There is actually a single web-site for both models of which I am a member.
I hope my question makes sense. If not, I would be happy to clarify further.

Len

Hi Len!
I see now that i misuderstood you. But now you know how it is anyway.
The sound i used was te preset in the GT-5 that just goes by the name AC GUITAR. The only thing i´ve done to the preset is to increase the EQ level to get the volume up a bit. Othervise it´s just the preset from the factory.
And, yep, i know the GT-3. All the Boss GT and GP producs are/were really good.
