Hi friends

Just read about the differences of “Slaughter on 10th Avenue” Ventures and Shadows versions.

If you like, have a look at my two videos where I play both versions.

You might notice litte changes in my fingerwork . I record the audio track and then the video (sometimes 1 or 2 two days later playing to my pre-recorded audio) and put it together on the WindowsMovieMaker. So little changes in phrasing are normal. And it was not possible to switch to the flanger part on the Shadows version (around 2:05 ) just with one click on Magic Stomp.

May be some of you will like both versions- but I have to admit I`m still confused that this two should be the same melody-theme.

firstly I want to congratulate you on two very good recordings of Slaughter as well as some of the others that you have posted. Quite an eclectic choice and all the better for it.

It does tend to bring into focus the differences between The Shadows and The Ventures. The Shads, along with guitarists like Mick Ronson played Slaughter pretty much as it was written. The Ventures did their own, unique, version.

Shadows detractors have accused our heroes of sounding the same on every record, a statement that has no legs whatsoever. I'm afraid that The Ventures version sounds to me as if it has been amalgamated with Walk Don't Run (their only really good number IMHO) and Hawaii 5-0 (best performed as an orchestral piece as per the TV series). The run down the neck really just makes me want to laugh; it is so naff.

It is of course down to personal taste as to whether you like one version more than another. For me, The Ventures are just not very good and their version of Slaughter is the worst that I have ever heard. Unless of course, someone knows of anything different.....

I apologise for taking ages to respond to your excellent video. I have been working with my tune 'Herring Road' for about 3 weeks (I posted this here last night after final completion - and several revisions).

I thought you did a great job with both versions of Slaughter which are, as others have pointed out and you know yourself, poles apart. I haven't heard the Venture's version (not a fan). I found it interesting to compare the two versions. Thanks for sharing them in that manner. With the Shads version, I noticed a few quick changes in guitar. I liked the sound of the acoustic/electric guitar. What type of guitar is it? The Burns sounded great too of course on the Shadows version.
