First videos of practice sessions for 2011

I recorded a practice session this morning so thought I'd post a couple to show I'm still trying and hopefully there will be a little progress to hear but I still can't play anything through without mistakes.

WONDERFUL LAND
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhA6f77Q35E

I've changed my finger positions a lot since last time and am picking up the trem bar after the muted bits about 9 times in 10 now. Actually a second recording of this was better but I somehow played a wrong note in the beginning bars - not just missed it like at the end but totally changed the tune - and I'm not quite sure how I managed that. Anyway this one is a bit more balanced in volume.

GERONIMO

This is the first time I've recorded it after trying to learn the double stops at the beginning which I haven't quite got yet but are easier to play than the way I was originally trying with three chord notes instead of two. It's a start anyway.

I changed the Strat strings myself for the first time too so the strings are new and I'm using Charlie's EFTP patches, a Zoom G2.1Nu and a Roland Microcube. They're only recorded on a webcam with the picture cropped and zoomed because there's no space in the room to put the camera closer.

Best wishes
Rosemary

Excellent progress Rosemary, all we need now is a smile for the camera.
Cheers

I agree. Wonderful Land was better than my attempt, and I've been playing since 1964 (I was only 2 at the time! ) When did you start Rosemary? It seems only a year or so ago.

Hi Ecca and Paul
Thanks for listening and for your very encouraging comments. :)

Ecca: I don't think I'm at the stage of being able to look up and smile yet without totally losing the plot. :)

Paul: It must be almost a year now as I started learning the acoustic about the beginning of March last year and then bought a Strat a couple of months after that - and then a backup secondhand Strat a couple of months later:) I mainly play the acoustic at night after work and try to learn all the tunes and then try them out on the Strat on weekends or a day off.

Thanks again!
best wishes
Rosemary

A green ant grin at the end would be splendid.

What video setup are you using to record? Just curious.

Hi Ecca and Walt

Ecca: I'll try to remember that next time :)

Walt: It's recorded with a webcam but looks fuzzy because I've had to move the camera away from the amp and desktop computer speakers and have then cropped the image to zoom in and then resized to a higher resolution than it was recorded (or else the video image would be too small). I've tried recording using the webcam's highest video resolution but its software then produces sound problems with the backing track software playback (although RAM shouldn't be a problem).

To edit the video I've been using iWisoft Free Video Converter
http://www.easy-video-converter.com/
It supports lots of sound and video formats too and is excellent.

All the best
Rosemary

Don't worry about the mistakes Rosemary, I've never played a number at the Hankies without making a mistake yet  ... and I've been playing over 40 years :(

I'm sure you'll be playing to audiences soon. Keep twanging!
