To France (Video) Mike Oldfield

After recording Mike Oldfield’s Moonlight Shadow a few months back which seemed very successful I thought I would try another of his songs.

“To France” came from Mike Oldfield’s 9th Album, “Discovery” in 1984.
(The next album after Crises where Moonlight Shadow came from)
The original features Maggie Reilly on vocals.

I really enjoyed working out my take on this song.
I think it’s a really nice tune although if you don’t know the tune you have to listen to it several times before the tune in your head. (Or it did me)
The strange thing is – nobody I know has ever heard the song before!

For the main tune on the Strat I used bridge pickup with Alesis Q2 EFTP patch 0-36.

Added an acoustic rhythm with my 1990’s Gibson Dove.

For the last 25 sec’s on the PRS I used a Q2 custom patch programmed by Charlie Hall.
Hope you like “To France”

Good stuff, Phil.

One of those infectious songs and your guitar sounds do Maggie Reilly's voice and Mike Oldfield's composition justice.

Kind regards,

Terry

Very good job Phil, both for the playing and the video. The last seconds with the PRS sound very much like Mike Oldfield !

Thank You Didier and Fred. Good to from you.

Yes Mike Oldfield often uses a PRS and I was trying to get close to the sound he makes.
He's certainly a great musician and song writer. Love his stuff.

Cheers Phil
