One Night in Bangkok/Variations
This is my version of track 16 of the 1997 Album "Hank & the Shadows play the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice"
Many thanks to my Son Andrew for making a fabulous backing track for Me.!! This is his biggest cubase project to date with 60+ channels to mix. Without which I would have had to look for another song! lol
The main theme "One night in Bangkok" was written by Tim Rice and the guys from Abba for the musical "Chess" and made famous by Murray Head as a single in 1984.
Recently in 2011 the song was released by Mike Tyson for the Film Hangover II
The next part of the music is taken from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Variations composed in 1977 for his brother, the cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. This was used for years as the title music to the TV arts series "The South Bank show" It's based on the theme from Paganini's "24th Caprice", and was shown on TV in many countries.
And finally the other part of the song is not unlike a well known Shadows song which they often used as a Finale in their concerts. F...... B.......?
On Hanks & The Shadows album, A reference is made to the lead guitar on this track.... note:-
"The oriental "flute" solos in the latter part of this piece are played by Hank on a Signature "Strat" with no effects other than echo -- the sound was achieved with dexterous use of the tremolo arm, tricky trills & a lovely Thai curry."
Well unfortunately I didn't have that "lovely Thai curry" to hand so Andrew did this bit on the backing track by modifying a "Bagpipe" sound within cubase to hopefully re-create the sound of Hanks Oriental Flute sound..
Hope you like "One Night in Bangkok/Variations" It was a long time in the making.
Many thanks to Google Earth, Shakira and the Indian Snake charmer for their valuable input into making this video.
Cheers Phil
