London Kid

I'm still struggling with the Apache gallop and beginning along with other tunes I'm still trying to perfect (well get as good as possible) so thought I'd post a different number for a change. The great backing track is from Tony on Charlie Hall's website. My playing is still a bit rough but here it is anyway :)

Hi Rosemary, not familiar with the track but it brought to mind Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy.

I like to hear vocal interaction in vid such as an intro etc. Brings the viwer into the whole experience so to speak. I can see your playing speeding up and becoming off the beaten track which is normaly the first signs of a player looking for diversity which is a musician's progression into other genres.

Regards

Bottom of the class, Bri!

London Kid is one of my favourite Marvin tracks (with Jean Michel Jarre) and quite tricky to play / learn, I'd imagine...

You're getting better all the time Rosemary 8-) And your sound has improved too.
One thing though. If you look at your video and look at your right hand technique, you'll notice you are doing a lot of upstrokes. If you concentrate on up and down strokes, you will find your playing will become much more fluent.
I picked up on this simply because when I watched myself playing in a video I made a while back, I was astounded how much I was doing upstrokes and rectified it.
I think I was concentrating on what the left hand was doing and not paying attention to the right hand
If you practice simple scales up and down the neck and concentrate on up and down, you will soon get out of the habit.
If you do them - down up etc then up down etc, it will make a massive difference to your technique in no time.
Hugh.

Thanks Bri, Hugh and George
I have a long way to go but enjoy playing this one and found it a bit easier than others (although I'm probably still missing some of the fancy bits) :)
Hugh: Quite a few people have mentioned I play more upstrokes and I've been trying to adjust my playing but didn't really notice I was doing it with this one. I'll keep a closer watch. Interestingly on one of those TVS3 videos (I think), it was mentioned that Hank plays a lot of upstrokes but then I suppose it's that old saying about having to know the rules before you can break them :)
Best wishes
