Bilitis. Video

A very simple yet beautiful melody written by Francis Lai for the 1977 film of the same name.

The Shadows made a fine guitar instrumental of this for their 1990 album “Reflections.”
My video is based on The Shadows version with much use of the swell pedal.(Dunlop DVP 1)

The Backing track I used was made by a friend Gigi Ceresa of the Italian Shadows community.
Many thanks to Gigi for sending me this.
There are other BT’s available including Ernie Lamprell’s from Strat Trax vol 1

A live recording via the Alesis Q2, EFTP Patch 0-36, soundcard & direct into Cubase. (No Amp) for the sound.
And 2 x Sony SR12’s & 1 Sony WX7 video recorders used simultaneously in HD 1080 for the video.

The sound and video edited in Sony Vegas 9.

Hope you like “Bilitis”

Cheers Phil

Absolutely beautiful Phil - the sound from your guitar is wonderful as is your playing.

So am I right in saying that not only did you use no amp, but there was no amp simulation used either?

I wonder whether Hank knew the nature of that film?

http://www.imdb.com "A coming of age story centering on the exploits of a young girl during summer vacation".

Yeah, right...

I have never seen it, but I understand that it is a near-clone of "Emmanuelle" (the 1974 film that everyone went to see because of the exotic locations and great photography). Some of us even bought the soundtrack CD. I may be the only person in the world who has the CD but not the video.

Hi Roger,
Many thanks for the comments - Yes the only thing we do in cubase is click on a built in tool called a "Maximiser"
This boosts both the backing track and guitar to make the wave file as big as possible without distortion.
I'm no expert with cubase but I'm learning from Andrew.

Thank you Fred, Keith and Jim.
I too haven't seen the film this came from - probably in French with English sub titles :D
I'll have to watch out for it.

Cheers Phil
