I Drove All Night. Video

Here is my own instrumental arrangement of a great track by Roy Orbison released in 1992 "I drove All Night" It was also made famous by Cyndi Lauper, written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. The song has been covered by Pinmonkey (2002) and Céline Dion (2003).

I used my Alan Brason Strat, Kinman HMS pickups. Alesis Quadraverb Q2 EFTP patch 0-36. And A boss compressor sustainer CS2.
For the solo and ending I added a bit of overdrive from a Boss SD1 turned up about half way on the Drive.

The BT was £1.49 and came from

I shortened the BT by about 1 minute as it went on a bit !
Hope you like my arrangement.

Cheers Phil

Superb Phil, you really captured the energy from the Big 'O' original.

Phil that was terrific - as you probably know I'm quite a keen big 'O' fan and I've recorded some of his hits.

There's a liberal sprinkling of double stops in your arrangement and they really help to make it work as an instrumental.

Thank you very much Keith, Roger and Steve for your nice comments.

I tried playing it with single notes and it lacked something- so used the double stops for most of it.
The other thing I found is I had to add lots of "Filling" notes or there would be long gaps in the tune.
Very glad you liked the arrangement.

All the best... Phil

Hi Phil
Its those double stops that make it for me - excellent!
The "verse" itself isnt that much of a "hook" relying on the words for the story but the "chorus" is the real "hook" and it comes across wonderfully well as a guitar piece.
Neatly trimmed out from the Ameritz BT - seamless - and a good positive ending too.
Usual great tone and with the added Hankisms it "could" have been a cover he might have recorded.
cheers
ian

Hi Phil, you've been busy with a couple of numbers since I saw you a couple of weeks ago.

Great number with loads of energy, phrasing and double stops expertly played again. Great boost at the end using the overdrive which added extra tone and powered it to a fitting climax. Super!
