Thank's for that Dave, you have just saved me £186, & I cast no aspersions on your as per usual excellent guitar work but your demo's show it wouldn't be the unit for me.

I thought the soundfiles were fine, I like the choice of echo on Apache,similar to Hanks 301 sound.It certainly has the capability to cover Shads stuff and others (provided you dont have an oscilloscope lying around). I think its a good buy for £186 but armchair Hanks might opt for the etaphw for accurate timings, I will buy one eventually. regards Gary

I hear nothing wrong with these 2 (well played) recordings.

As a "1 box" solution the Catalin works very well & I would imagine is ideally suited to live work. Whats a few milli seconds here & there

We have the Etap2 HW for totally accurate echo's (& reverb/trem) which can be "modded" for professional live work if required & now the Catalin pedal

Both of these are realistically priced and as such affordable for anyone who desires one

No sign of the "Hall Collins" pedal at the moment so, if you want to buy new & don't like the Zoom models the choice becomes very simple............(unless you can justify the cost of the TVS system)

What next then ?

I remixed Apache and replaced the link - when I listened again I thought the lead guitar was slightly too 'edgy'.

On this machine the spacings are editable via varispeed and can be made identical to the actual specs, but I just set up the machine by 'ear' as you would at a gig and just went with the recording to get the job done. I could make a living with this, no problem, after all it's in the fingers rather than the gear.

I have no doubt that you could make a living playing through a Zoom G2 with Charlie's EFTP loaded but it beg's the question "would this forum be here for us to talk about it all if Hank had to make do with a G2 all those years ago?".
Point is you saved me £186 & again thanks for that, now, where can I buy an ETAP unit ready made?

The only thing I'd want to do with a Zoom G2 with anything loaded is sell it !

Ecca assembled my eTap2hw at a reasonable cost - I'm sure he would build one for you too, just ask him nicely.

I think these sound files are very acceptable, ok EFTP and lately the eTap all do a great job in getting the 'correct' echoes, but when I think of what we were using before the mid 90's ...... and it sounded acceptable to Joe Public, the Catlinbread would produce a sound more than acceptable to the masses.

Everybody ( Well I was )was quite happy with their Copicat.
