The Crying Game

This is a cover of Hank's version from the "Heartbeat" album.
Dave Berry made the song famous in 1964 - It featured Big Jim Sullivan on lead guitar.
For this one I detuned the E string down to B, and for the bass parts near the end of the song the A string was also de-tuned down to E.
The great BT came from Goran Tangring.
Roger Allcock also does a great BT for those who don't want to de-tune their guitars as it has the Baritone guitar on the BT.
A tiny bit of overdrive added using my Carl Martin PlexiTone pedal.
The swells were done with a Dunlop DVP-1 volume pedal.
Echoes using Alesis Q2 programmed with echoes from the past (EFTP) patch 0-36.

Hope you like "The Crying Game"

Cheers Phil

Nicely played Phil - an exellent version.

It just goes to show what can be achieved with the Strat !

Thank you very much Rog - I'de love a baritone guitar but for the few songs I'de use it on the Strat works fine de-tuned.
All the best... Phil

Hi Phil
Do I like that? " Think of the "Churchill" Bulldog. - "Oh, Yass!!"
Great sound from that de-tuned string - not a bit floppy sounding.
Original was a collab between Hank and The Pet Shop Boys who I think did a fabulous job on the unusual BT - Goran did a good job on emulating it. I have RogerA's too and I must have a try at dropping the tuning on my Strat.
The playing is excellent as always and some of those top notes have that magical "bell" sound quality. I'm convinced nowadays that half the reason those notes come out that way is the way in which the notes are actually played and you have got it Spot On.
cheers
Ian

Great stuff Phil, I love that deep sound from a guitar. Reminds me of the seven string I once had, the lower string was tuned to A or B but you could mess around with it and take it down to lower E which opened up a load of ideas for the guitar. Christ! why did I sell that instrument?
You do that tune proud, I'd never have thought of doing that one, and played so well 8-)
See you are back to sitting down again. Old legs not holding out then???
Hugh.

Ian - Thanks very much for the nice comments.
I had no idea The Pet Shop boys were involved with Hanks recording - makes sense now it is an unusual backing.
I was very impressed with Goran's and Rogers BT's both are very close to the Hank recording.
The hardest thing with the song was remembering the order of which register to use. :?

Fred - Very glad you liked it and thanks very much for commenting.

Hugh - Yes I'm back to sitting down again  mustn't over do it at my age.
A seven string - that must have been fun - But we sell these things and regret it later I think we've all been there.
Thanks for the great comments..

All the best... Phil
