These were originally published in Vintage Guitar in 2009. Slightly out-of-date but still worth a read. The next couple of chapters to be published will deal with the Shadows links to Burns.

Thanks a bunch George - I got absolutely nothing done this morning because I just had to read all 6 parts of this fascinating article!

It reminded me that between late '79 and early '80 I used a Baldwin Vibra Slim bass. I'd landed a job as a bass player but not having one of my own, had to hire one and that was all the local music shop had! 16 gigs later I saw sense and realised that the money would be better invested in buying one. I bought a Maya copy of a Precision, in a rather nice natural finish with tortoiseshell scratchplate, and kept it for about a year and a half, and a further 52 gigs.

in retrospect, I often wonder why I didn't just buy the Baldwin.

These days, being an OAP, I usually think first before I buy another piece of kit, namely, how many gigs do I need to play to pay for this?
