My Shadow Special has a serial number of 13XXXXXX. Can anyone give me information on how to read the info from that, with regard to manufacturing date and location etc? Any help appreciated. Mike

Hi Mike,

The Fender s/n lookup doesn't seem to recognise your serial number?

I believe that Burns is still in a transitory state after Barry Gibson retired (Ex MD) and taken over by new owners (Andertons Guildford?), so I'm not sure where one would go at present, it might be worth asking Andertons?

What you have there is a very nice guitar from the 'Club' Series of the early 2000s. They are from the same range as the Marquee and Double Six of that period and retailed around £349 at the time and I always liked the binding look on the body with these. I have two models from the 'Club' series, a Double Six and a SSJ (Short Scale Jazz) in greenburst and redburst respectively and they are good instruments, excellent sounding and great playability, making a mockery of their modest price tag.
These appear to be a rare find these days although seemed plentiful twenty years ago. This tells me that they are good instruments and people do hang on to them.

Thanks for that Dave, much appreciated. Even unplugged, it sounds great (like an acoustic!!!). My last electric could hardly be heard when not plugged in. I'm back to electric (and guitars) after 40+ years.

I've been told that the "Honeyburst" had to be ordered as a "Special" and that the prices were "On Application". I've also been told that the "Special" in that colour started at £499 list price! ;)
