Quick question without notice:

What are the 2004 re-issue Burns Marvin necks finished with, poly or nitro?

I suspect poly of some sort... never been sticky like the modern nitro finishes. Interesting that my local luthier who uses nitro based on spirit type solvents never has these problems. Suspect Gibson and Fender use water based nitro which takes about 2 years to harden properly...

David,

Many thanks for that. I ask because a friend has a chip on the neck of his and wanted to know so that he can do a 'touch up' - I think he was intending to use Estapol gloss. ;)

Alternatively, if it's just a small chip, take a look at superglue, which can be carefully spotted in, built up, the sanded down with no ill effects.

Ian,

Many thanks for your suggestion, I think given the distance to Australia though he may be more inclined to seek a local product. ;)

David,

Thanks for the timely reminder of the super glue solution, that's one that slipped my mind!
