I recently posted in the Marketplace, for a buddy, to go with my Marvin 40th Anniv.

Today I went down to meet fellow forumer, Peter.

And after a jolly pleasant visit, came away with a greenburst Marvin 64

Here she is:


And one, with new chum:


Peter already had her set up with the same make and guage of strings that I use, so I was at home straight away.

A lovely guitar to own and play. I feel lucky

I love the greenburst color very much...it's looks like the applegreen of the late 60's Baldwins
Pitty all the greenburst 40th didn't have the vintage correct neckpocket,if so.... I would bought one in a jiffy back then....
Instead i bought a GB custom build Marvin in greenburst.....4th from the left

The greenburst seems to have the most vintage look to it. Love it.

By, the original neck pocket, do you mean the one that causes cracks?

On the picture you can see L to R a Original 65 Burns Marvin-40th 2004 Marvin-Original Burns 64 Double Six-2004 GB Custom Build Marvin-1980 Marvin 24 fret customized...and a D28 acoustic.

Graham, indeed I mean the encloseing neckpocket....and yes the paint cracks a little most of the time.
I have handled more then 30 original Marvin's maybe nearly 50, I lost count in the last 35 years....most of them had indeed the little crack in the paint.
It's only cosmetic in 9 time out of 10,I held only one sample, wich was knocked over and had a repaired wood crack in that neckpocket.
The strat like neckpocket,isn't my cup of tea
The switch to the stratlike neckjoint(like yours)was made after a few complaints from new owners of the 40th 2004 Marvin's about the tiny haircracks in the paint
Back then I called them sissy's because it's only vintage correct and doesn't effect the playabillety and the construction of the guitar. I wrote back then,"how about applaude Barry for going all the way,to get it vintage correct"

I like the way you even have matching, green plectrums.

I've never been attracted to obtaining vintage guitars.
They mostly seem over priced to me.
Having said that, it must be nice to own a peice of rock "n" roll history.

Apart from a Double Six, I bought then sold , a while ago, these are my first Burns guitars.
And i have to say, I love them. They are so suited to my playing style

I hear you about silly prices for vintage guitars.....
I bought all of my vintage guitars in the good ol days....before it became fasion and a hype!
I payed 720 GBP for my 65 Marvin in '88

Well done, for that price.

Vintage certainly seems to be very fashionable, at the moment.
That's understandable, I guess but my pet hate is relicing.
It may be controversial but I really think relicing is for the dim witted.

On the positive side, I have been very happy to acquire some excellent, new guitars, in vintage styles, at some very low prices

Hi I paid £80.00 for my 1964 Burns Marvin in 1969. Still got it and I only paid £35.00 for my Baldwin Double Six in Green in 1971.
