Hi, just started to record our own stuff. It's not exactly the shadows but it features burns guitars so it seemed an appreciate place for advice/feedback.

The Double six features heavily on Flowers, Missing Buses and Industrial machine. My sonic is used for lead on Flowers. We're trying to keep close to our live sound.

On the positive side, there's some nice guitar ideas and I like the vocals, alot.

Negative: The timing is poor and I don't think you are getting the best tone from your Double-Six. I think a cleaner sound, woth some spring reverb would sound great. Just my opinion.

It's all promising stuff, so keep on in there.

Thanks, points noted. We really struggled with the sound/tone and it was too "narrow" for a while so we reverted back to a more natural sound-we may have over reacted and gone too far. Timing-thats worrying as I can't hear it, which in turn means I can't put it right.

I find the whole recording thing difficult. There are so many possibilities with modern software and things you can tweak. It's its easy to get lost and just make things sound worse rather than better. At one stage the vocals sounded terrible so we had to go back to the original settings and fix it.

We have 3 more tracks in the making so your advice is noted!

Cheers

Hi Eddie, I was interested in hearing what you are doing but can't seem to hear anything on any of the tracks.

So what I will try and offer is some good advice. No amount of equipment or computer software will disguise a bad performance, bad timing or tuning, or anything else - so you need to put the time in and work out what exactly you want to do, in terms of the arrangement as it's one of your own songs, it's important that you all work from the same 'hymn sheet' to coin a phrase. The time spent working out all of the beaks, light and shade etc may seem tedious but works wonders on getting the desired results. I find that ten minutes with the band organising and ironing out fine points before a take is worth hours of correcting later. If there are timing issues that perhaps you can't detect, ask the band members for input and failing that ask the member who pointed it out. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi Dave, sorry you can't hear the tracks. I'll resend a specific link soundcloud page and a link to our facebook page, which has links.

Burns guitars, and the 12 in particular seem to suit the sound we're after live, although I also use a "hot tele" sometimes for recording.

We just got together in January. I had started playing guitar again about 15 months ago after a 30 year break, I started recording my own songs for which I needed me to play bass. I loved playing bass and my friend Amy asked if I would play for her live so she could sing live and the only other musician I knew was my friend Paul who plays bass-no percussion as yet but we manage and seem to complement each other.
We're doing local open mics and they seem to be going well so were trying to get our stuff on Soundcloud and to get a half hour set together. I already discusses "grayns" comments with out bass player who is doing the home studio stuff and plans to make some changes later this week so I'll add in your comments Dave.

I can't believe how much easier it is to play live and record compared to when I last played in the 1980's.
