Ok...

<gulp>

That's not a Duotone...

It's an Ace ( I think).

But curiouser and curiouser... it does say Duotone on the headstock decal... I've asked Martin Kelly (the Vox guitar Guru) for an opinion... This could be a real variant rarity...

It's a dilemma of what to do with old stuff. I have a set of original Burns short scale bass strings. I cannot find a string to match. I gave exact details which went to PD and CPJ and Colin had Pyramid make some. He states they are excellent. Will have to bite the bullet and buy some I suppose

My own Vox was nothing like this, here it is:

I believe it was called a Super Ace. (This photo is one I found on the net, as I never took a photo of mine, which only had 2 pickups.)

Well this is irrelevant to this thread as I'm discussing a 1960 to 1962 guitar. Yours is a 1963 to 1965 model and bears no resemblence to mine, although I do have a 1965 Vox Spitfire which is a slightly more expensive model than the Super Ace, though similar looking, with most of the parts on it akin to the Phantom. I was hoping for some expert advice but it appears I'm ahead in that area too. ;)

I had a look on eBay(UK) and there were quite a few early Vox guitars for sale, and to me, they were...bloody expensive!!! :o :)

I don't consider mine expensive at all, though it was a lot of money to my parents my Duotone was 28gns in 1962, the equivalent today of £601.98.
Last week I payed £256, the equivalent of £12.50 in 1962. I'd say it was a fair price for something that I wanted. :)

This is supposedly a flyer from Vox in 1960, taken from The Vox Showroom website and it would appear to support the gentleman who sold the Duotone to me . . .
