During some research this unusual model turned up. Seems similar to the 67 Ossis tour models except has no binding and a reverse scroll headstock

Goodness me!

That certainly looks very much like the guitar Hank used on the tour here...IIRC Bruce's guitar had no vibrato arm fitted...never seen a reverse scroll headstock before-and it has that different body shape and scratchplate, but they were prototypes after all IIRC...I have a DVD set which includes the Shads performances miming on TV on the show 'Bandstand' but the quality is not great and details are hard to see...also I note that the four control layout appears to be the usual master tone and two tone controls, plus a 5 way rotary switch...which answers my question as to what circuit those guitars used- as it was four knobs, I had wondered if it had Bison type wiring..but not so!

WHERE is the guitar I wonder?- that looks like a picture taken at someone's home...I also wonder, who owns it?

Thanks for posting anyway- very interesting!

Just checked the youtube video- the reverse scroll headstock neck on that guitar is not the same as the guitars they used- which had normal scroll headstocks- however the body on that guitar in your photos looks to me to be the same as the ones they used- which I don't think had the body binding in any case....interesting!! :D

Hi Bill,

So...where is this guitar and who owns it, I wonder?

Is it owned by that group of people in New York who own another Marvin prototype, by any chance?

The only thing I can think of is that it is another prototype (possibly of the guitars Hank and Bruce used in Oz in 1967) which somehow escaped being scrapped- like that other early Marvin prototype which was discussed here a few months ago...

Either way...I like it! :D

Or... It is made up from leftover components after Baldwin closed down the Burns operation? My Baldwin Marvin was one of those (subsequently 'customised' by the person from whom I purchased it) and had several quirks such as an unengraved trem plate and a left handed arm! The story of my restoration attempt is somewhere on the 'net...
