Speaker Choice?

Hi All,

A bit of advice please.

A few years ago I purchased a second-hand Fender Pro Junior for home and also for practice sessions (small club room). After a tinker with the electronics (retired electronics engineer) and fitting it with a Weber 10F150 speaker I arrived at exactly the sound I was after. Great amp, great sound, easy to carry.

Recently I have purchased a second-hand Fender Blues Junior. Having tweaked the electronics and replaced the speaker cloth and it’s now really good. The only thing is that I’m not sure of the speaker which is the stock Fender one. It seems very bright to me. Anyway, I looked into probably replacing it with a Weber 12F150 (12” version of the 10” one in my Pro Junior). The only problem is that I can’t find a UK supplier of Weber speakers. If I import one from the USA the costs are too prohibitive.

So, I have been looking at the Eminence Cannabis Rex and the Harma Bright Sapphire.

It is for lead guitar (clean). What do you think? Or do you know of any others that might fit the bill?

Many thanks.
Roger

You can call them for advice. Prices are decent too.

I have a friend who replaced the 10" original speaker in a 15 W Harley-Benton GA15 valve amplifier with an Eminence Ragin Cajun speaker with good results. It is also quite loud.

I was talking to Charlie Hall about speakers only last week and he highly rates the 12" Eminence Canibis Rex that he uses in one of his Fender Amps. It sounds something along the lines of the quality of the 10" Ragin Cajun which is excellent, which I used in my Fender Superchamp XD before I sold it on. :)

Hi Didier and Dave,

Thank you both for your very valued replies.

It's funny that you should mention the Eminence Ragin Cajun. It was nearly my first choice for my fender Pro Junior when I chose the Weber 10F150. Many players rate it first class. It is probably a toss up between this one and the Cannabis Rex.

Thanks again.

Have you checked that a 12" speaker would fit in the Pro Junior cabinet ?

Hi Didier,

The speaker is for a Blues Junior which is a 12". My Pro Junior which has the Weber is a 10".

I have just ordered an Eminence Cannabis Rex from Lean Business Audio Ltd. Should arrive tomorrow.

Although I have recently bought a couple of Celestion Neo Dogs and an Eminence Lil Texas for projects with lightweight equipment, I'd be interested in hearing how you Cannabis Rex sounds in the Blues Jnr. :)
