Thanks, Rob. Interesting. This is a constantly recurring topic, which gives us something to talk about.

Hi Len,

As you wrote, that was in '61 and on a rosewood neck perhaps?
I was writing about the 34346 before and around the time of Apache, so a year earlier.
The statement of only flats can shine like that, I leave that to you....
I had sparkling shining strings all the time when I was filmed by a pro crew and the bloke behind the spotlight was very fanatic to give me a sun tan.
The set I used was just brand new normal Daddario's 11-52 ....
I couldn't see what I was playing, after a shout from me and a firm prayer from our singer he dimmed the spots a smidgen...
Never mind the string type..... I find it a ground hog day discussion ....never be resolved and returning like a nightmare ;)
Even after Bruce said I was there, and Hank told me in a 45 minutes interview the same and he knew exactly who he was talking about, people bought a Gretsch....most of those Gretsch are sold by now ;)

Let's bring back this thread main topic, how about the string volume balance on the maple neck 34346 and this recording???

Cheers Rob
