Let's see how much it Actually sells for

It's been listed numerous times, I emailed the seller advising what they cost new and asked how he arrived at his value/price? I didn't get a response.

I want one of those Burns Marvins sooo badly but I'd have to sell one of my existing guitars. I have a MIM HM Signature Fender Stratocaster, a Burns Double Six, an Epiphone Casino and an Epiphone EJ160 John Lennon signature electro-acoustic. It's a good lineup because it's one of each type: solid electric, semi-solid electric, 12-string and acoustic. It's a bit like the hot air balloon game where you have to throw someone out to save all the others!
So, if it were you, which one would you sell and why answers on a postcard to "Frustrated of Bristol"

AAARRRRGGHHH! Sorry everyone, but I HATE that word "investment" used when talking about guitars!

I have hated this whole business for years now, and I was very put off when some time ago, whilst browsing e-Bay for amusement, when I came upon an advert from a yuppie investor who was disposing of his high priced "portfolio" of vintage guitars in the USA- he obviously wasn't a player, and his information about each guitar was obviously taken from some publication or other.

No wonder it's so hard to buy a reasonably priced secondhand guitar any more- according to their owners, everything more than a day old is a 'collector's item", investment opportunity, or valuable antique. Even mass produced guitars are said to be "unique", and every '70's Jap guitar is a rare "lawsuit" model.....

Give me strength!

Agree! The only 'lawsuit' should be the one dropped on the morons that create this situation - most of the guitars so labelled have nothing to do with that paricular era nor the particular companies involved.

I think that the term used here ( bunkum ) is a great bunkum. I know one guitar
collector in Austria - his last investment in a guitar were € 18 000.- ( Les Paul
Standard from 1959 ) ! The seller needed the money urgently - the actual international
collector's value is around something higher. The guitar will he never use on stage
for him this was a very good INVESTMENT !

I don't dispute what you say- it was a good investment for that guy- but damn him!! What angers me is the whole business of investors artificially inflating the values of items which were originally made for genuine purposes, not as financial products..

If I'm about to get political here I apologise, but I feel that musical instruments exist to play music- not as yet another opportunity for people to make huge profitts which are essentially unearned income.

I feel the same about houses- they were built for people to live in and have a life, raise families etc- not for financial speculation. No wonder people can't afford to buy a house to actually live in these days...

If people want to speculate financially, let them use the things which were invented for that purpose- like gambling and the stock market.

The speculation in guitars only started about 30 or so years ago- back then they were reasonably priced without all this collector's item rubbish.

OK, you still had to pay a fairly high price for a really good instrument back then - but not the price of an expensive car or even a house!!!
