that is a very nice guitar, what are the other Lefty Hank B marvin strats you have? I have an 88 rose wood board fender lefty i think its candy cola red and me ole heavy weight black strat bought in 1983 with 1983 inspection tags but has 1978 serial number, I think this was because Fender were using up old serial numbers again. it has a white scratchplate.
I would love a custom shop one but the finances arent there

Lovely Geoff. Although I've always preferred the Maple neck.

Gillian, if you find yourself up here anytime you can have a go on mine.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi again Gillian,
I to have a black/ maple USA Strat from late 1982 with a 78 serial number and large headstock. It was the only left handed Strat I could locate in 1983 when I bought the guitar. The electrics are 100% 82 Dan Smith Strat. The build, finish etc are fantastic with contour's to die for. The neck is the slimest I have come across on a Strat and very easy to play. I bought the guitar from Soho Sound House in 83 (£440) and they said two left handed and two right handed had been made for a trade show. The guiitar came in a triangular type shaped cardboard box and was wraped in what I think is called gun paper. I still have all the paperwork from Soho SH. The guitar sounds fantastic. There is one problem though and that, like yours, is the weight. It,s 9lb;6oz .
Can I ask if your Strat has the large headstock? Being left handed it might just be the twin to mine, you never know.
Best Regards Geoff.

At least left handed guitar playing folk can actually get a reasonable range and choice of proper L/H instruments fairly easily these days.

The bass player in my first band was a lefty, and it was virtually impossible to find, let alone buy, a left handed instrument of any kind back then (mid-'60's) particularly a bass...even Paul McCartney and Jimi Hendrix initially had to make do with R/H models played upside down!

So our drummer, who was a handy sort of chap (as well as a great drummer) built him two successive basses from scratch! The first one was a bit basic(!) but the second more improved model was a great short scale copy of a Rickenbacker 4001 !

Hi Geoff
I brought my lefty Black strat from a shop in London between June and october 1983 it was £425.00 including a case but when i arrived to pick it up, i was told no case just the guitar same price, .... i was a bit annoyed but decided to get it anyway. It came with the inspection tags dated April 1983, a grey cable, manual dated 1982, and alan key. the maple neck has a bit of Flame on it, and a large Headstock, bullett truss rod. the paint work is nice and the curves deep and comfy.
I have never taken it too bits to check behind the scratcplate, but it might be the 'twin' of your one. I can send some pics if you are interested.

Hi Gillian
Sounds like we have a matching pair and apart from the weight, we both got a bargain. A picture would be nice. I will take some of mine plus the LH Shadows guitars, as I call them, and post them in the next couple of days.
Regards Geoff.

Hi again.
Here are a couple of pictures of my left handed 1982 Large headstock black Stratocaster. A fantastic guitar, apart from the weight.
Regards Geoff.
