I have also used spirit of salts, but the last lot I bought was hopeless. It could be the old H&S at work. But in the past the spirit of salts I have used had 32% hydrochloric acid in it. Dangerous stuff, don’t use it in doors. Breathing protection definately required. The big secret is getting it to actually look naturally aged. I have seen some from the US that just didn’t look right and false. It might be worth practicing on something else before the guitar parts. If it is nickel, it won't be a problem, if it is chrome it won't naturally age, the chrome needs removing first to be honest.
