Think you're right, Dave!
.................and that "Wailing" solo of Ben's in "Flingel Bunt" eh!
I feel sure that it would've had the "That Sound" brigade up in arms, but our Dave STILL tries to emulate it when we have a bash.
Regards
Paul

That was the 40th Anniversary tour. I have the programme and my tickets from 02 November 1998 at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

It was Matthew Letley on drums.

great drummer! He played a few gigs at the start of the 2000 tour (the Scandinavian dates plus, I think, few of the early UK ones), before leaving to join Status Quo and being replaced on the Hank Tour by Peter May.

After seein Hank And Brian on the 96 tour I was totally disappointed at the next tour with Peter May on the drums at the next tour, then getting Matt Letley was like getting Brian back, a fantastic drummer, then to my disappointment agaian in 98 when we were expecting Matt again to get confronted with Peter May again, not in the same league but, on the final Hank tour of 2002 what did Hank hit us with? Another very capable Mr Bennett clone in Fegus Gerard, absolutely brilliant and fitted in well with the band although I have to admit Matt has and always will be my favourite Brian Bennett replacement just as Mark has been my favourite John Rostill replacement!

Ian,
Very interesting thoughts, I tend to agree that, although a highly accomplished drummer, Peter May is not a "Shadows drummer" but I have to say I saw him with Cliff's band and he was great.
Matthew Letley again a great drummer seem to fit the bill better although again not a "Shadows drummer" and now is going strong in Status Quo.
It must be very difficult for any drummer to play behind Hank knowing he is going to be compared to the Guv and I believe we have to accept it will be different.
Similarly with bass players, Alan Jones and Mark Griffiths are both top players and have done extremely well on tour with The Shadows. But again they are not Jet or Brian or John and will have their own interpretation.

Ron

My understanding is that the drummers on the Hank tours were all expected to study and reproduce the parts as recorded by BB.
