I appreciate everyone has their own way or method of tuning drums. Some tune by ear, some tune with drum dials, some use notes on a keyboard, some by tapping.
So I think it's fair to say there may not be a definitive way to perform this function.
I recently found some very interesting vidoes on the Evans website under "Lessonroom". There are some 364 different subjects discussed and some are on tuning. It is worth a troll through to find these as they gave an alternative view on how to tune drums, in particular the bass drum.

Thanks, Ron. I'll go have a look. The drums we have have the notes marked inside the shells, and I was planning to retune them again. it was quite difficult the last time.

Better Late than Never!

I have never had any success at tuning my drums - until now.

I have an iPhone and purchased (for $10 Aussie Dollars) an app called "iDrumTunePro". It uses science to assist in tuning, and boy, does it work well.
I can now knowledgeably tune my drums, and get the sound and balance between drums that I want. Support is excellent, and the author (a young English Professor) has always responded promptly to my requests for help. In my opinion it is superior to anything else on offer.
