It's Laurie Jay, sitting in when Tony was ill.

Hi George,

Do you know whether Laurie Jay took over the drums for just this date or whether he sat in for Tony for a period of the Cliff & Shads tour (24.4. - 15.5. from my records).

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Laurie Jay certainly travelled with them when they went to Scandinavia and Germany but that was October 1959, so I'm not so sure about the 1960 photograph. It could have been a one-off

George, do you remember The Laurie Jay Combo having a residency on one of the ITV childrens' programmes, c.1962/63?

It may have been the Rediffusion show variously entitled "Lucky Dip", "Tuesday Rendevouz", etc.

I recall that the bass guitarist of the quartet used a particular (and to my eyes, odd-looking) instrument which I recognised when I saw one in the window of a music shop - a Gibson EB-0.
