I haven't seen one of those for years: very reminiscent of the cover shots for the Ventures' early LPs...

It was the norm on the vintage kits and if you can do it why not. Unfortunately the more modern kits don't have that facility so stands are a must.

It looks as if you are using the cymbal mount for the ride, with the second crash further to your right. Drummers in groups in the early sixties often only had a ride and a crash so your way was the standard configuration.

Then as a second crash became more common it took over that ride position and the ride moved round next to the floor tom. Since drummers wanted that second crash higher, to match the one on their left, the bass drum mount fell out of fashion. Possible explanation?
