Was it a custom made one and was it used for any performances. There is also some writing on it which I can't decipher . Thanks

There was one for sale on Reverb last year
a 1966 ,but it had been refinished etc so not all original
it could have started life as a white bass ?
anyway some nice pictures.

Yes, after a little more research in my Burns green anorak, I can say that this is not the guitar used in the film.

The bass in the picture above has its toast rack aslant over the strings. I'm not sure when production switched to that form but the Burns Legend reissues certainly had it that way. The early versions of the Burns Shads bass had the toast rack crossing the strings at right angles. John's white bass was made like that and, from the Finders Keepers clip below, the green one was too.

(So, in the interests of authenticity, was my Rostill reissue.)

As far as I know the green burst Shadows Bass is still available from Burns website, should anyone want one. Just to let you know that the bass is the same but tuners are now silver. The black Gent (?) are no longer available.

I have received my own handmade copy of the greenburst edition of the Burns Shadows Bass last month. It has black tuners and the chrome palm rest or 'toast rack' placed vertically over the middle pick-up, just like John Rostill's bass.
