There is a set of saddles for a Tele that does exactly that. It's called the TLSIT Sitarizer. I'd buy a Tele just to get that sound!

ETA: It seems that one is no longer available, But Gunther Eyb in Germany makes the same thing, which comes in 3 versions, for a Les Paul/335/SG etc, for a Tele or for a Strat (which fits both trem and non-trem versions). If you want one for your Strat, it will cost you 150 Euros. I'm not so keen now!

This one (at $55 USA + $14 shipping and probably about £20 at this end in VAT and duty)?

That's the one but it does say "out of stock" at the top.

Going back to the subject of Basses & Bass players, here is an excellent Jet interview talking about the early years, together with Brian Locking. Jet explains that 'Diamonds' was actually recorded on a Gretsch guitar de-tuned a tone down, & not a Fender Jaguar.

Jet also refers to the original (sunburst) Framus bass (recommended to him by Tony Crombie) and the subsequent dressing room incident, apparently involving Tony Meehan, which seemingly put paid to it on a permanent basis, and the borrowed white replacement Framus, or identical instrument, which features on the cover of the recently issued FBI compilation CD.

Possibly, before Jet, the earliest appearance of a bass guitar is the Hofner violin bass (c. 1956 pre-McCartney version) played by Fred Kirk in the original line-up of the John Barry Seven in early 1958...
