R.I.P. Chris Jarvis - LEGEND

I am sorry to tell you that my great friend and colleague - Chris Jarvis, bass player with Legend - died this morning at about 5 am surrounded by his family.

Just before the last Shadowmania that the band played, Chris noticed something amiss, but not wishing to cause a problem with the band's appearance, he delayed seeing a doctor. When he did so, this lead to the discovery of a cancer. He's battled hard, as have the doctors, to stem the tide of this disease over the last few years, but eventually all avenues had been explored, to no avail.

Chris was a great man to work with gentle, quiet, determined, reliable and hard working- the rock on which the band was founded. As a musician, he was exacting in his pursuit of John Rostill's legacy, perfecting his sound and technique. Now he leaves a legacy of his own through our memories, and the body of music he recorded. This is a sad, sad loss. I will miss him...

I've known Chris and my Dad as Shadows fans for my whole life, and it was great to see them achieve what they did within this community (before it even was a community), since they started playing together again in 1992.

It's an enormous loss to the band, to the Shadows community, and to everyone who knew him. He didn't lose his humour or his positive outlook once in over 3 years of a really horrendous battle against ill-health, nor his determination to keep on being well enough to get out and play gigs.

We were all very lucky to have known him.

Matt.

Such a nice man and a good friend. I shall miss Chris.

As fellow bass players, we would often chew the fat. Nobody was a greater fan and student of John Rostill's technique than Chris. I learned plenty from him.

It was always a pleasure to watch him in performance and great to enjoy a pint together afterwards in the bar.

RIP Chris
