The first US pilot to break the sound barrier in 1947. He was 97 years old probably
trying to reach the ton also !!!
Lulu came close to the barrier in 1964 when she first recorded Shout. According to legend,
she broke a few microphone ribbons in the process!!!

There was a British plane in development which would have broken the sound barrier but the Labour Government cancelled it,years later someone built a scale model of it which broke the sound barrier . Chuck Yaeger distinguished wartime fighter pilot flew Mustangs over Germany read his book.
