Like many others, I was shocked and saddened to learn that Roger had passed away at the turn of the year. We met Roger and Margaret in the late 70s when they lived in Helensburgh. We visited each other, went to Shadows gigs and so on. We kept in touch after they moved south, and always kept up-to-date with family matters as well as talking about music.

Roger was a talented musician, as well as an electronics whizz. His CDs were a pleasure to review because his standards were so high and his recordings were easy to listen to, as well as providing fellow guitarists with a supply of excellent backing tracks. He was a 'no fuss' kind of person, and it was no surprise to learn that during his illness he had discussed his wishes with Margaret and Chris, and that he wanted 'no fuss' after his passing. His wife and son respected this.

We all deal with loss in different ways. Margaret and Chris have asked for time to come to terms with the loss of a husband and father. I hope that those who knew Roger - in whatever capacity - will respect this in the days and weeks that lie ahead. Chris has made it clear that they have no plans to dispose of Roger's guitars and other musical paraphernalia.

If we can be there for them if needed but give them space and time, we are doing all we can, as a community of friends.
