Can anyone help with these chords please? I am ok with the verses but can't work out the middle eight. I seem to recall this being asked before so apologies for a repeat question!

best wishes

Andy

What key do you want?

If I recall correctly, the bridge of this song is strewn with major sevenths.

Hello Jim

B or C would be great. I recall comments previously suggesting the key of C is easier?

many thanks

Recorded in B I think so the chords in this link will need transposing by hitting the "1 step up" button twice:

They look about right but I haven't played through them.

OK... in C....

[and before I start, I just know I'm going to get flak for this - but this how I hear the harmonies developing under the melody...]

Middle Eight, in C (under the lyric: If you hear the words he has to say....)

Fmaj7 / / / Bb7 / / / C / / / Am / / /
Fmaj7 / / / D7 / / / G / / / G7 / / /

It's the Bb7 that'll be the bone of contention... ;)

There's a chromatic descending harmony line A / / / Ab / / / G / / / which supports those chords.

I think in the record key it's this:
I had to put the slashes in to get the chord to space out correctly over the words.

///////E / / / / / / / /Em / / / / / / Ebm
If you hear the words he has to say, he'll break your heart

/////// E / / / / / / / / //Em / / / / / / / / // F#7
Let your love for me prove strong while we are far apart

Difficult to see his fingers with the graininess of the video and camera views available.

However, they're playing it in B and what I hear is this (basic chords*)

E...Em...Ebm...Abm...
E...C#...C#m...F#...

This is the same chord sequence as on the original 1963 single

*You can debate whether there are 7ths and other additional notes in the chords but, as well as the rhythm guitar, there are notes coming from the lead and bass guitars. Anyway, the basic chords work fine.

OK I checked it out with the band tonight and as I play largely lead notes I got it slightly wrong in my head.
Trying it with a guitar it's actually the way I amended it above. :)
