Joe Brown in Glasgow
Disappointing turnout at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, which is a shame because Joe and band delivered their usual professional and entertaining show. Joe's voice is maybe not quite as good, but musically he's still first class, as are his backing musicians, including his extremely talented son Pete.
For the first half, I counted eighteen stringed instruments on stage, not counting the double bass and bass guitar... ukuleles, dobros, mandolins, banjos as well as acoustic and electric guitars. Slightly fewer in the second half, but Joe did swap his 335 for a Gretsch on one number!
Still a couple of dates left on the tour. Joe, ever the professional, opened the evening by apologising for the cancellation of the spring tour. Old school maybe, but with a repertoire which includes Burl Ives, Beatles, U2, Steppenwolf, the Who and Motorhead, he doesn't just rely on trotting out the same old songs. Great night.
"Take a good look at all these guitars... You paid for them!"
