Tracey Ullman and HBM!!!!!!!

I was noodling around on YouTube, found Tracey Ullman's 1983 cover of "Move Over Darling" - the old Doris Day song - and to my surprise the video starts with Hank playing the intro, complete with red fender stratocaster.

I knew Hank was on a Shaking Stevens vid and on the Cliff/Young Ones spoof of "Living Doll", but I had forgotten or missed his contribution to the above-mentioned Tracey Ullman vid.

Its a hoot.

Kindest regards
Christopher

You're right, Hank was on Shaky's 'Teardrops". :)

Yeah I like Hank's solo on Teardrops Will Fall.

I was disappointed that he was not allowed a solo on Move Over Darling.

Perhaps there was a solo and it didn't make the final mix? Why go to all the trouble of getting HBM to play on your song and then don't let him do what he does best? Perhaps he was just there as an Icon/Image - red guitar an' all - specs - 1960's? Like he was used in those adverts for snacks and beer?

Was not the Shadows visual image as influential as THAT SOUND.? Methinks I digress.

M'Lud, I rest my case.

Christopher

Anyone remember Anyone Who Had a Heart by Sandie Shaw and the British Electric Foundation. This came out in the early 80s and I bought a copy as it said "featuring Hank Marvin" on the sleeve but I would defy anyone to say they could hear him on the record...!

Hi Clive

Just had a search on the web, for Anyone Who Had A Heart - found some Sandie Shaw vids, but nothing feat. HBM.

Found Cilla Black and Marvin Welch and Farrar - Norwegian Wood - but I was already aware of this one.

Sorry can't help.

PS I believe HBM is on Paul McCartney's "Rockestra"???? - but I have never heard this.

Kindest Regards
Christopher

Yes Hank was part of the Rockestra. If you've got an hour to kill you can watch docu-film of it on YouTube. Someone commented, "Hank Marvin is very cool in session," and I had to agree!

There is an extended version of Move Over Darling featuring more Hank, but don't get too excited, it just repeats the intro a few more times:

And I must have listened to this one dozens of times, never realising it was Hank playing the solo:

Hmmmm! It does not even sound like Hank - although he does sometimes stray a bit from THAT SOUND, i.e. on Shades of Rock with Alan Hawkshaw et al.
