A Vox Amp that turned out to be a Marshall

Hi All,

A number of years ago i saw 1 of the better 'Beatles' tribute bands in the LongAcres pub in Portobello. They were using, so i thought, Vox guitar combo amps. However, i was still there as they were packing their equipment away, and to my surprise....they pulled, what looked to be 60watt Marshall combo amps out of the back of the Vox's.
They had literally just been using the Vox boxes, with speaker covers etc still on, as imitation to look authentic :-o But i've got to be honest, they were 1 of the best, if not the best, Beatles tributes that i've seen (and i've seen quite a few good 1's over the years)
Wish i could remember their band name though, as i saw about 6 different 1's in about 1 1/2 months  All i can remember is they were 'The something Beatles', the 1 bloke looked very much like John Lennon.
I wondered if any 1 else has experienced these strange occurrences?

Cheers
Ryan

Hi Ryan

A friends band did that, they used carlsboro amps in vox cabinets, I've also heard people using session ace tones with vox cabinets,

I guess the image is the main thing and if the sound is close that works

Like i say, i thought they had a great sound and all the time i was thinking "look at those old vox amps, don't they sound great"
I suppose they do do it for the authentic image, and it was very convincing, i certainly wasn't expecting another amp to pop out of the back :P
I really do wish i could remember which Beatles tribute band it was, i'd love to go and see them again if they're still gigging. They were really authentic sounding and looking.
I'll have to have a look around on youtube to see if i can find any clips of them, or any that i recognise (it's been about 8-10 years ago)
This was something that just popped into my head earlier and i wondered if anyone else had experienced it :P
Cheers

Ryan,
Try "The Bootleg Beatles", they have quite a lot of stuff on YouTube.

Could this be the group you are looking for?

Cheers, Jim

 Looks like it's not unusual then
Can you ever trust what gear your eyes perceive your guitar heroes to be using.....
Good Heavens just thought....Could Hank really be playing some cheap fender copy sprayed fiesta red with a Fender transfer on the headstock :o
Only joking...but you never know

Joe Brown has often mischieviously alleged that 'the Shads early AC30's had Fender amps in the cases! ('Ask Bruce Welch!')'

Look at the bass amp on the left :

Image

It looks like a Vox, but I have never seen a Vox model of this kind, in rather looks like a Markbass...

The band is "The Red Strats" from Holland, playing Cliff and Shads tunes.
