Just watched a promo video for BBC I Store . Finding it hard to believe that for every regular
download purchase , they send you a free VHS copy!!
I for one thought this format was pretty much a yesterday thing, as most of us have probably
transferred collections to DVD discs, and put the VHS Recorder in the loft for the Antiques Roadshow
in 100 years time.
Maybe its just me , but as Baldrick would say is it another cunning marketing ploy?

Hang on its April the 1st you silly boy!!! Laugh if you haven't paid your licence fee!!

Following on from Mike,

Back in the mid 70's I took a magazine called Electronics Today International. (ETI).

At this time we only had the 4k memory chip available and were all waiting for the 16k chips to be developed.

For the April fool ETI advertised a special offer for the new 16K Write Only Memory chip.
Thousands ordered it. So it backfired.

Talking of April Fools ...

I received this by email yesterday

Are you aware that today the government has agreed to cap the legal driving age at 75 – starting in 2020 (see below).
http://www.motoring.co.uk/car-news/uk-driving-age-to-be-capped-at-75_67595?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=motoring-010416

If you are concerned about this (it could affect your normal daily life, your holidays etc.) you might want to think about contacting your MP. It will certainly put a crimp in my lifestyle. I will be looking into starting a petition on this subject. Here’s to meeting you on the bus, or train.

I replied
Frankly, this is the last straw. Retirement is all very lovely but maybe it's time to end it all...

To my delight, I received an immediate response telling me not to panic, it was only an April Fool.

Yes Iain's post got me thinking about older drivers in general.
More so than ever you need eyes in the back of your head to watch
the Wacky races, be it in your local town motorway etc.
So many vehicles today have blind spots of vision even on adequate mirrors.
There is no doubt some older people are struggling to park 4x4 s MPVs etc
especially in supermarket parks.
Maybe the idea of a full retest at 75 needs to be a rule with an emphasis
on the ability to move and park efficiently in restricted spaces.?

Hi Mike. As a matter of interest I'm from the UK but living in Japan now. I had to be re-tested when I reached 70 and will be re-tested again at 75. The test covered Sight. Response time and of course driving and parking. Fortunately I passed, however there was a slight confusion at a "Stop sign" as they look similar to the UK "Yield sign"
Best wishes. Dave

Strangely enough, I saw a piece somewhere (not on April the 1st), which said that cassette tapes were making a comeback. Incredible but, apparently, true!

So maybe it WILL be VHS next! And then Betamax hopefully!

All these changes in technology is too much I had a perfectly good VHS video recorder but changed it for a Super VHS recorder, then I went from vinyl records to cassettes then onto CD`s . I also bought a mini disc recorder thinking that they would replace CD`s ,they didn't catch on because CD recorders came out.Incidentally a friend of mine had her CD player taken out of her car and replaced by a cassette player so what's next record players back in cars.
