SIR CLIFF RICHARD: STATEMENT IN OPEN COURT
May 26, 2017

A Statement in Open Court was read in the High Court today on behalf of our client Sir Cliff Richard. This followed his successful claim for misuse of private information and breach of the Data Protection Act against South Yorkshire Police. South Yorkshire Police have today accepted that its actions in disclosing to the BBC private information relating to the police investigation into Sir Cliff were unlawful.

The litigation brought by Sir Cliff against the BBC in respect of the same facts is ongoing. In a separate ruling today, the court ruled in favour of Sir Cliff’s application to compel the BBC to answer a question relating to whether or not their source came from within the police.

I thought the settlement was not to be disclosed?

If that had happened to me in Cliff's situation, I would rather heads rolled than been offered the money, which to him is probably the equivalent of £100 to us. Nobody ever seems to be accountable.

Let's see, where does the money to pay for South Yorkshire Police come from?

Oh yes, South Yorkshire Council Tax payers

And from the UK Government

Which means all of us - British tax payers.

Next, no doubt, will come a settlement with the BBC.

Let's see, where does the money to pay for the BBC come from?

Oh yes, British Licence Fee payers - which means all of us.

Good, eh?

Not entirely sure I agree Ray, most large organisations have insurance policies to cover possible litigation, however, your argument would probably apply to the payment of premiums.

Yeah, I don't think OUR money is used for payments of this kind. And, to be honest, even if it is... who cares? If something good comes out of this then what is a few PENCE to each of us? The SYP have a terrible record and the more flak they get the better. And as for the BBC. They already waste most of the money we pay them paying idiots like Gary Lineker, David Walliams, Steven Moffat, Sandy Toksik, Steven Fry etc... etc... to fill our screens with rubbish. No, in this case I think whichever way one looks at it it's been a good result. It really is about time these unaccountable entities were brought to book.

OK, getting off my soap box.

Can I join your soap box? The Beeb recently complained about the amount of money Cliff was spending on his legal team! But that's HIS money, whose money is the Beeb usisng to defend the case? Agree the Beeb waste huge sums of money on so called celebs and presenters. Every footy match now has two commentators, a presenter, and 3 or 4 ex players to discuss what we have just watched! Remember when Ken Wolstenholme and David Coleman used to do the job by themselves?

Yeah. Sadly, since the BBC moved much of its broadcast facilities up to 'Media City' in Salford, for highly dubious reasons, the highly-paid presenters who live in London present them with something of a quandary. The solution, certainly in the case of Gary Lineker is to get a taxi to take him from his palatial home in (probably) Kensington, up to Manchester to present Match of the Day and then drive him back home! I would be interested to know how much this totally senseless expenditure amounts to per annum. The BBC has no right to complain about anything, in my opinion. And here's a thought, all those disgruntled at the way the BBC misappropriates their licence fee, why not write to them and ask for the money back that you paid them during the period they employed Jimmy Savile, Rolf Harris and Stuart Hall. Now THAT was money badly spent!

I used to have the utmost respect for the BBC. I don't now. They have even allowed Doctor Who to be ruined by Steven Moffat.

I shall be interested in seeing how the BBC play this, but unless they consider themselves less accountable than the police, then surely they must realise that they WERE in the wrong and just pay up. Let's say it's a million or two pounds... simple... reduce the wages of a couple of MOTD presenters or tell Gary Lineker to pay his own taxi fair!!!

Have a nice day! :D

They could get rid of the annoying Graham Norton who has shows on both TV and Radio. No doubt the huge fee he and others are paid is the reason why we have repeats of Homes Under the Hammer, Escape to the Country, Bargain Hunt and several other antique shows, now being shown seven days a week! And why is their now a Celebrity show of all the Quiz shows? More money wasted on, I have to say, celebs Ive never heard of!
