Is science fiction author a fan?

I have just started reading 'The massacre of mankind" by Stephen Baxter, the sequel to "The war of the worlds" officially sanctioned by the H G Wells Estate.

As it follows the events after TWOTW, it portrays a different world from the one we know. Britain made peace with the Germans and was not drawn into what we call World War 1. The country is run by a militaristic government, headed by Prime Minister, General Brian Marvin...

So, is Mr Baxter a Shadows fan? I am only a few chapters into the book, so I will be on the lookout for other clues!

Remember The Fall and its 30+-strong dramatis personae all names after brands of guitar (everything except Fender)?

I am currently re-reading 'The war of the worlds' and realised that the character of Brigadier General Marvin appears in that book, but I don't think his first name is given, so maybe Baxter is a fan after all...

I have always thought that Eagles' Dan Dare was Hank Marvin, and Digby was Bruce.
