Sounds like Bruce Welch is portrayed in this Olivia NJ biog starring Delta Goodrem.

Anyone seen it?

Is it the first time a Shadow has been featured in a drama?

I saw part of episode 1 (it's a 2 part TV movie 'biopic' which is being broadcast currently on free to air TV here in Oz) but missed the early part where Bruce is portrayed..sorry! :?

If the two episodes are repeated in the near future, I will definitely watch episode 1 and report back! :)

The show has had some poor reviews here, but Delta Goodrem (the Australian actress/singer/pianist- she is very well known in Oz and is a good performer) who portrays Olivia, sings the songs herself, and is a very good vocalist, although her acting was criticised on social media.

John Farrar is also portrayed as a main character..

I love the way that both Bruce and John are being played by guys with double-barrelled surnames!

Olivia's dad was my dad's headmaster when he was at school.

I'll watch it just to see what kind of reference is given to Bruce/John/The Shadows in the overall picture.

I watched the first part and found it a bit trite, almost as though they were just ticking off the boxes:

Olivia teams up with Pat Carrol...tick
They go to UK....tick
Olivia shacks up with Bruce ...tick
They fall out and Bruce gets depressed....tick
She goes back but it doesn't work out...tick
She does Grease ...tick

And so on. Also, they didn't bother to get any of the details of equipment etc correct. All very superficial and just a bit tacky.

Pity, as there is a real story to be told.

Paul.

On the "Olivia shacks up with Bruce" bit (and with a name like "Bruce", surely it was a no-brainer?), I still recall the first time I ever heard of Livvy. It was in the second half of 1966 in the back-page gossip column of the New Musical Express, which rejoiced in the byline "Alley Cat". Alley Cat was written in an idiosyncratic note form, never a complete sentence and no verbs whenever the context and the gist would allow it.

Thus it was that the first UK press mention of ON-J that I can remember came in the form of a slightly-cryptic note: "Shadow Bruce Welch's new girlfriend Olivia Newton-John an absolute stunner". [From what I recall, that is more or less verbatim - it is possible that the word "Shadow" wasn't there.]

But we in the UK never heard much more of Olivia until the doomed film "Toomorrow" came out in about 1970. Then the following year, she started to have hit records (thanks to Bruce and John Rostill).
