I can't, surely, be the only person who feels this way. Can I?

YouTube is a splendid source of information on many subjects.
It therefore made sense to me to search for a revue / demonstration
on a specific guitar that had tickled my fancy.

Imagine my delight to find the exact guitar in no time flat.
Swiftly followed by disappointment upon finding said guitar
used to "play" 750 notes per minute in the 15th position by an
"expert" who might as well have had a flag sticking out of his
head saying "Look at me, look at me". Or possibly even more
annoying, two blokes having a great time playing with the
amplifier / pedal / stomp boxes, whatever in super grunge mode.

Boys....I don't want to hear that. I can turn the gain up full and make
enough row to wake the dead.
Could someone please play a tune? Remember those?
I want to hear what each individual pickup sounds like. I long to
hear a sweet, round tone played through a lovely clean channel
on my prospective purchase.

Or am I flogging a dead horse?

You're certainly not alone Alan.
YouTube to me is similar to a computer in that it can be extremely useful some of the time, and yet very annoying at other times.

Me too, in fact I frequently post in the comments below asking to hear just the clean sound of the guitar itself, rather than the amplifier with half a dozen pedals in front of it.

So far, it's fallen on deaf ears. (Not surprised they're deaf after all that distortion.)

I couldn't agree more.

A couple of years ago a guy was advertising for sale (at a pretty high price) a Hank Signature Strat (one of 'The Ones That Got Away') and he gave a link to a YouTube demo of it. This, not to put too fine a point on it, was just a load of distorted rubbish which showed nothing of the true tones of the instrument. I politely pointed out to him that as the nature of the guitar and its price would really make it of interest only to Hank fans he would have been better off demo'ing its clean tones.

His response to my comment was a long, nasty and abusive rant.

Some people are so far up their own............!

I remember a YT USA dealer review (presumably by one of the sales assistants) of a Gibson ES-175D, "demonstrated" on full distortion...

When it comes to Shads style guitar demos on you tube, sadly the
majority of them don't know the shads, or how many of us are out
there still playing (or trying to) their style.

Agreed! Bloody annoying!

I saw a clip demonstrating a pre -war solidbody electric guitar...a Slingerland Songster...I wanted to hear what such an early solidbody electric sounded like...but the person doing the clip was a young teenager who played it loud and distorted...
