From the i newspaper, Thursday 23rd January 2020:

Fined Fender faces the music
Guitar maker Fender has been fined £4.5m after it admitted breaking competition law by preventing retailers from discounting online prices for its instruments. Between 2013 and 2018, the company required its guitars to be sold at or above a minimum price in UK.

Does anyone have stories about the price they paid for a Fender during that time?

In my local music store, I can get a strat model guitar and amp, marketed as a Fender Squier, for about £175. There are cheaper options if I wasn't concerned who manufactured it.

Kindest regards,
