But, just watched a vid of Billie Eilish performing the theme song (??????why does a secret agent need a theme song??????)

Great song and stunning performance, but the only nod to late, great John Barry is a final chord.

I can understand why Hoppalong Cassidy needed a theme song, but the bad guys or gals will sus out James Bond as soon as they hear the theme. He is meant to be a SECRET/UNDERCOVER agent.

I look forward to the next actor to carry on the role - any gender or ethnic origin,so long as they can be convincing in their performance.

At the Sports Cars For A Cause last Sunday, a charity by the local sports car club providing for full scholarships, including room and board, for very poor children, part of the program included singers singing songs related to the cars, such as Francis Lai’s A Man abd A Woman (the movie featured a GT40). The singers dressed in racing coveralls, and the appropriate cars were parked behind them. Naturally, one of the songs was a theme from a James Bond movie - Nobody Does It Better, from The Spy Who Loved Me. (the movie featured a Lotus Esprit). It was beautifully sung.

I love the James Bond movie themes. Many are very evocative.

I haven’t listened to the new one. I’ll look for it.

The new song is fairly typical, I suppose, of what sells these days... miserable, dreary, weak, self-pitying and mumbled. It will probably sell, but it's going to be one of those songs that people skip when they listen to a James Bond compilation CD. The last one was pretty bad too, but I suppose they suit this depressing style that the films have adopted over the last decade or so. Give me John Barry, Shirley Bassey, Lulu, Duran Duran and Tom Jones every time, rather than this dirge.

M - O - N - E - Y

A bit like "Ghostbusters" and a great number of other films which had "themes" which were simply not thematic.

Bring back Dmitri Tiomkin, Erich Korngold, Maurice Jarre and Jerome Moross.

And even John Barry.

Especially John Barry, for my money the finest film composer of recent years.

He could even put a decent theme to a rubbish film! Check out Starcrash and Raise The Titanic.

Weak material- sounds as if I've heard it before- could be worse I suppose...

A friend of mine collects film and TV music. A composer wil often release an LP, or CD, or Download of the score, sometimes expanded to a suite.

A grumpy attitude with a chemical hair-dress that give light in the dark, seems to be more important then a decent voice.

Despite our collective dislike, surprise, surprise it is now offically Top of the Pops, and american Billie Eilish has become the first female artist to score a UK number one with a James Bond theme. Billie's brother Finneas O'Connell co-wrote the song, and Daniel Craig has given it the thumbs up!. This must be true cos its in the papers - MailOn Sunday!

Regarding Mr Bond - in the first couple of books written by Ian Fleming there is a lot of material describing Bond and his world (albeit a fiction, but enjoyable). Bond is aged about 38, is tall dark haired, with an unruly, curly lock in front. He smokes, drinks, treats women badly (by today's standards) but they fall at his feet as soon as he lights one of his expensive gaspers (made in turkey). Bond knows he has only a few more years and missions ahead of him, but he accepts his almost certain death in a few years time, because what means most to him is his membership of the elite 00 section. He treasures his housekeeper, and worships his boss - "M".

But fast forward 70 years and he needs to be given a makeover, so he can stlll make money for whoever holds the rights to churn out the flics. I am not sure why they made him a short fair-haired, bandy little geezer - is that what appeals to women today? No disrespect to Daniel Craig, who given a decent script and director, can turn in a decent performance IMHO.

On a positive note i have managed to work out the final chord. I think it is:-

6th string - open
5th string - 2nd fret
4th string - 4th fret
3rd string - 2nd fret
2nd string - 4th fret
1st string - open

Is it an E minor 13th aug flatened 4th twice removed??? Technical stuff like that i leave to proper musicians.
