Hi Pete,
Yes, I bought one of the Fender Mex FSR Classic series '50s Strats in Fiesta Red way back in early 2018 when they were issued. It's a good typical Classic series guitar. The bonus is that it has the Gold hardware, USA 'Custom '56 pickups & includes a nice Fender Tweed hardcase, all inc. in the price. If I remember rightly, it cost me about £740 new at the time.
Considering that the Mex ranges have now received a complete makeover & revamp & the new replacement Vintera range (which are also great guitars) replaces the old 'Classics' & are roughly in that similar price range now. So, maybe I bought at the right time.
So, yes it's a good quality guitar, & most Mex guitars are probably great value compared to the USA ranges, both in quality & certainly in value for money.

Thanks Tony for the reply !!! I bought mine about the same time and for roughly the same price !! I just thought the strings was a bit light and have started to think about changing them for a heavier set !! Wondered if you had and thoughts yourself

I ordered one a couple of years back when they were released with the tweed case but I didn't keep it. Nothing wrong with it, but no better or worse than the other dozen or more Strats I already own so I had a word with myself and sent it back. At £729 with gold parts and case it is good value.

Hi Pete,
Yes, I do think for me personally 9s, which many new guitars come with these days are a little too light. I mainly used to play Rhythm guitar in my band, & I found that 10s work much better for me, whether I am playing Lead or Rhythm parts. That's just my preference, & a nice compromise gauge in both roles. I have one or two guitars, usually Gibson style with the slightly shorter scale length that feel OK with 11s , but certainly the Fender style all have 10s. I am not of the liking for going any higher gauge than that, as it certainly tends to make bending notes much more difficult.
String gauges are a very personal choice, so it's very nice to have all these options these days.

In the early years of the millennium when I bought my Stratocaster, the guitar I ended up with is a MIUSA vintage reissue
of a 1957 machine that just happened to be candy apple red rather than the Fiesta Red - popular among players in Shadows
tibute bands and individual players too when it comes down to it. A tweed case carried it home.
But anyway that is the colour paint of the Stratocaster I ended up with. The guitar has a plain, not curley maple neck and board.
I had a chap who looks after local players stringed instruments, swap out the hardware from chrome to gold and the pickguard and rear trem spring cover from solid white to mother of pearl. Fender still use nitrocellulose lacquer finishes on their vintage reissue Stratocaster guitars. Over time and exposed to indirect sunlight this changes to an excellent vintage look.
The guitar plays great now thats its been set up right, which is more than I can say about my playing now
that old Arty arthritis has taken up residence in my withering old body.

I have ordered a similar one from guitar guitar but its got 50's fat pick ups on it, not being dispatched till april

I'm just getting back into playing Shadows style music, after a few years playing other, mainly T Bone Walker style of guitar playing Have also just re-joined this site.

I,too,have just ordered this very guitar from GuitarGuitar,and was also told that delivery is expected some time in April; I hope they mean April 2021!
In the meantime, I just bought another Guild!
