I need to update Barbara's machine with a new anti-virus setup...

Is there a better free program than AVG?

Your advice will be gratefully received...

Hi David,
Go to http://download.cnet.com/windows/most-p ... contentNav for most popular downloads. AVG comes up high but also download No 6 which is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as lots of computer repaires, I'm told, use this one to get rid of malware but keep updating it.

Hi David,
I recommend you explore this article and site: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44525
I found their advice invaluable when I had a serious spyware problem some time ago.

Not saying that it's the best option, but Microsoft offer their own free anti-virus/malware/spyware. Microsoft Security Essentials.

I'd be very worried about how well free apps keep up to date. I use a commercial app, Virus Barrier and pay an annual subscription for the updates. I get at least one update a day!

Hi David
I have used AVG (free) for a number of years, I update every day, and so far have not had any problems.
Take care

Hello David,
My experience with AVG Free mirrors that of John H.
I, too, update the virus database daily - with a full virus scan every week - and have been very impressed.
In the past, I've had commercial applications (I remember having Norton - WHAT a pain!!) and none of them have matched AVG Free IMHO.

Paul
