This guy seems to have that sound!
And he tells you what he uses!
I've seen the AC30 close up, it's a nice amp!
It's what the Americans call K.I.S.S.
No compressors, equalisers etc.

Hi Phil
How many different echo settings do you actually use on the Meazzi. I mean do you have all sorts of "patches" for different tunes or are you down to a handfull or less and and just balances vol/lenght for different songs.

I totally agree, Phil certainly does have that sound, the only problem is that there aren't many Meazzi echo boxes or Vox AC30/4 amps for sale. What I will say is that when I used Roberto's Meazzi through his 1958 Tremolux, it didn't sound anything like Phil's sound - and it wasn't he sound of the amp, it was the Meazzi which I thought sounded 'flat'. After a lot of trial and experiment with everything else available, I'm convinced that the ESE Echomatic comes closest to Phil's Meazzi, as it has the growl and distortion at the back end of the echo signal and the Copicat Gold is pretty close to that, but they are also expensive. The Alesis - Zoom - Magicstomp etc are all great little machines (I still use the Alesis and Magicstomp) but they don't have any 'dirt' on the repeats.
Getting back to Phil's Meazzi, I believe that his many modifications hold the key to the accuracy in tone, which was absent on Roberto's example.

Hi Guys, thanks for the comments,
Just had a relisten, a bit on the bright side but not bad for texas specials, Erik i tend to use 3 basic settings,
1. the mod 2 bank , head vol set inside machine with passive pots , speed and feedback controlled externally,
2. the mod f ( top bank , 4 heads = 1, 2, 4 + 5 ( 3 off ) ( apache )
3. the mod f ( top bank , 5 heads =1, 2, 3, 4+ 5 ( man of mystery, Fbi, q/stores , frightened city, midnight etc )
( mod f same as mod 2 = heads are set with pots inside)
The recording does not really sound as good as hearing it live up close, it was just to give a little insight as to how good this old gear sounded back then and now,
