Just when you thought it couldn't get any better....

.............It just did.
There's an even better valve to be had for the Valve Eccamatic.
It puts a little more zing to the thing.
We have Dick Cruddas to thank for this.
The valve is a GE 5670 2C51 double triode and 2 are required, an added bonus for builders is that the valve is shorter in length than the 6N3.
I've today finished another unit and done a A/B test between the original 6N3 valve, a recommended Russian replacement and the GE5670 2C51 and there is a noticeable improvement
with the latter.
I'll mention no names but, Peter, it sounds even more brilliant than it did before I fitted the new valves to your unit !

This sounds interesting - were you using 12AX7/ECC83 valves before?

I'm curious because the 5670 has a different pinout.

Hi Roger

The valves that come with the pre amp boards ( sold as audio pre-amps) are Chinese versions of the 5670 not the ecc83 types you would expect to see in valve guitar amps

So no probs with the pin-outs :D

I don't see why the board can't be modded to take a ecc83 but not sure what would be gained over these GE ones for the effort of doing that.

Dick.

Are these valves direct replacements for what is in the unit at the moment? Is it an easy swap?

I'm still in the USA for another week, so I'll check it out when I get home.

Very easy swap Alan. I use rubber gloves to keep any greasy residue off the valves which can cause cracking. Just checked Watford site USA GE 5670 are £12 each
