A garage band? A Brisbane Shadows Players rehearsal

Postby Stratman77 » 24 Dec 2017, 05:36

Straight from the antipodes on a very warm Christmas Eve. I thought Shadowphiles in the U.K. and elsewhere might enjoy this iPad recording of an old favourite of ours. I'm the old codger playing rhythm.

There are a few more we recorded that day if anyone's interested.
Merry Christmas to all.

Nice performance of one of the less-played numbers. Thanks for posting!

I want to thank the members who were kind enough to listen to the rehearsal video I posted and made some very nice comments. I have to be honest and admit that the lead guitarist was visiting BSP and we were rehearsing some of his sets for the next meeting in the drummer's garage. His name is George Lewis and he lives in Wagga Wagga, a major regional city in New South Wales. He may actually be known in some Shadows clubs in the U.K. as he has toured quite extensively with his friend who backs him on keys. He is also an admin on Charlie's site. I found him to be probably the best guitarist I've ever had the privilege to play rhythm for, and an all around nice guy. He has extensive experience in recording techniques, and he actually added some of Norrie's flutes and strings to this number after he returned home:

For anyone who might be interested to hear more of George, here is his YouTube playlist link:

I think he was as amazed as we were just how clear the videos were as it was done by the drummer's wife on her iPad.

Thanks, James! Yes. George is an excellent guitarist and we at BSP can't wait for his next visit. I hope you enjoyed his videos! The problem is that Wagga Wagga is a 1,270 Km and 15 hours drive from Brisbane. We occasionally have visitors from the U.K. clubs which is a lot of fun. I don't suppose you are thinking of visiting Hank or Gary anytime soon? We would be very happy to have you at a BSP meeting. I must admit I become extremely envious of some of your club members who actually get to play with superb musicians like Alan Jones (who is my all time favourite non-Shadows bassist). He is simply magic! I would die a happy man if I ever had the opportunity to meet him. I also believe Warren attends a club occasionally. You lucky ducks!
